CHINA--FOREIGN BANKS. Chartered Bank of India, Australia & China. 100 Taels, ND (1885-1911). P-S199s. Specimen. PMG Very Fine 30 Net. Rust, Previously Mounted.
(S/M#Y11) Printed by WWS. Shanghai. According to the PMG population report, this 100 Taels note is the only graded example of this Specimen note. Cancelled stamp. Cancelled perforation. Black specimen overprint. Supported Royal Arms at top on obverse. Light gold "100" underprint. Seen with a green printed reverse with vignette of elephant at left and sheep at right, crown at top and ship at bottom. "100" obligations in all four corners. A comment of "Rust, Previously Mounted" has been made by PMG. Mounting remnants only seen on the reverse. PMG notes on the holder the denomination is 100 Dollars though on the note itself, the obligation is 100 Taels.
This is the first of the type we have handled in our lengthy history which isn't surprising given the rareness of the treasure. We are certain this note is absent in even the most advanced holdings of the Chartered Bank of India, Australia, and China. As such, we anticipate a significant amount of interest on this key piece, and early China wonder.
Estimate: $40000.00- $60000.00
