Alexander the Great left such an enormous impact on the world that coins continued to be struck in his name for more than two centuries after his death. This gold stater, with types identical to those of the great conqueror, was issued nearly a century after his death by a city on the Black Sea, either Calchedon in Bithynia or Callatis in Thrace. Recent research and analysis of find spots suggests Calchedon as the mint city, while the traditional attribution employed by Martin Price has been Callatis.
