Julius Caesar, as Dictator (49-44 BC). AR denarius (18mm, 3.75 gm, 3h). NGC Choice VF 4/5 - 4/5, bankers mark. Rome, March-April 44 BC, M. Mettius as Moneyer. CAESAR-IMPER, wreathed head of Julius Caesar right / M•METTIVS, Venus standing left, Victory in extended right hand, transverse scepter in left, resting left arm on shield set on globe; C struck over B in left field. Crawford 480/17. Sydenham 1055. Given the state of the dies, it would be far more likely that this coin was struck after the dictator's death.
