Menelik II gold Off-Metal Pattern 1/4 Birr EE 1889 (1897) MS61 NGC, Addis Ababa mint, KM-Pn2, Gill-M19. An example of enviable quality for this exceedingly scarce off-metal striking in gold of the silver 1/4 Birr denomination. The offering reveals a uniformly sharp strike, balanced by glowing mint luster that strengthens in intensity within the protected legends. For comparison, we offered an XF Details (Mount Removed) example in 2016 (Auction 3046, Lot 29834), which sold for $1,762.50 including Buyer's Premium, that result still achieved despite a quality that ranked leagues behind what this inspiring specimen offers.
