Menelik II silver Pattern Birr EE 1892 (1899) MS67 NGC, Paris mint, KM-Pn5, Gill-M9 var. Lettered Edge/J.C. Chaplain Signed Obverse variety, no privy marks. An extremely rare Pattern issue for Ethiopia with the primary components of the design matching that of the adopted issue, but the obverse having the addition of the designer's signature in the field below Menelik II's chin and the reverse missing the signature and Paris Mint privy marks that were placed in exergue. The offering presents an extraordinary degree of preservation and care in handling since its production, the surfaces freshly lustrous and dressed in multi-hued opalescent tones, with a beauty and grace that would stun even the most discriminating observer. The selection ranks as the single finest seen by NGC, and at this level it is likely to remain unmatched in both certification and eye appeal.
