Charles X gold Ecu d'or 1590-A MS61 NGC, Paris mint, Fr-389. An historically interesting coin struck after the extinction of the House of Valois which occurred upon the death of Henri III in 1589. The reign of Charles X, who had been a cardinal and Archbishop of Rouen, did not last, as he renounced the throne in favor of Henri IV after just a few months. Although Charles died in 1590, coins continued to be struck in his name until 1597.
