Great Britain
Henry VIII (1509-1547) gold Crown of the Double Rose ND (1526-1544) AU55 NGC, Tower mint, Rose mm, S-2273, N-1788. A popular gold denomination unique to Henry VIII's reign, bearing a divided H and K denoting Henry and his first wife, Katherine. These pieces commonly appear either badly made with poor striking and flan cracks, yet this example features only minor weakness to the centers and in all other regards is premium for the type. The dies used were rather worn and exhibit considerable rusting and polish lines, but these merely texture the fields and do not detract from the charm of this delightful Tudor offering.
