Great Britain
Oliver Cromwell Shilling 1658 XF45 PCGS, KM-A207, S-3228. Designed by Thomas Simon. Sharply struck, with the result that a pleasing degree of detail remains even after circulation. Lightly toned in graphite, with an attractive and subtle darkening of color in the outer registers. These coins were struck in limited numbers very near the end of the Commonwealth era, when Cromwell ruled like a king but refused to be so called. Most pieces were destroyed during the Restoration of the Monarchy beginning in 1660.
