Great Britain
Victoria Proof "Gothic" Crown 1847 Proof Details (Reverse Rim Damage) NGC, KM744, S-3883, ESC-2577. Plain edge. The far rarer of the two 1847 Gothic Crown types, its edge plain and its fabric pure silver. It has seen some handling; the rim bears a few dents (the most notable at 7 o'clock on the reverse which has led to its details designation), the surfaces with hairlines and contact marks. Besides these attributes, however, the piece is starkly attractive and its engraving heralded as perhaps the most beautiful on any British Crown. The centers are a faintly lustrous argent, toned to a deeper gold at the peripheries, every detail sharp and fully defined. For the collector concerned with obtaining an example of the rare plain edge Gothic Crown at a reasonable price, this may be your chance.
