Kings of Wessex. Edward the Elder Penny ND (899-924) AU58 NGC, Uncertain Kentish mint (likely Canterbury), Dunning as moneyer, Short Cross/Horizontal-Trefoil (HT1) type, S-1087, N-649, MEC VIII-Unl. 1.45gm. +EADVVEARD REX, small cross pattee / DVNNI | NC MON in two lines broken by row of crosses; group of three pellets (trefoil) above and below. Very well-made and beautifully preserved with mildly cloudy tone overlaying residual luster. The only example of this moneyer we have been able to locate coming to auction.
