William I, the Conqueror (1066-1087) Penny ND (1068-1070) XF45 PCGS, Uncertain mint (possibly London), Aelfsi as moneyer, Bonnet type, S-1251, N-842. +ǷILLENVS REXI, crowned and diademed bust of William facing with two fillets at each side of head / +ÆLFSI ON [...]TDEI, voided cross with annulet in center, pellet between two crescents at end of each limb, piles in angles. A very clear and expressive representative of this usually flat and caricaturized type, with the reverse especially well-engraved.
