Samanid. temp. Isma'il I b. Ahmad (AH 279-295 / AD 892-907) gold Dinar AH 280 (AD 893/4) XF40 (Bends) ANACS, al-Shash mint, A-1442 (R; cf. A-242), Bernardi-Unl. Citing the Abbasid caliph al-Mu'tadid without Isma'il's own name included. An incredibly peculiar "local" emission that appears completely lacking from Bernardi's foundational text. Despite Album including a note on the existence of these pieces under A-242 solely for AH 280-281, and stating that this mint is common, Bernardi only records an AH 289 emission with Isma'il's name for al-Shash, and we have been unable to locate any examples of this type in recent auction records.
