BUWAYHID: Baha' al-Dawla, 989-1012, debased AR dirham (8.63g), Madinat al-Salam, A-1574, Treadwell--, the date is very likely AH393, citing the caliph al-Qadir, with uncertain word below the reverse field, Fine, RRR. Treadwell lists three dirhams of Baha' al-Dawla struck at Madinat al-Salam, and two more are now recorded on CoinArchives, all different from this piece and all weighing between 3 and 4 grams, and probably all of fine silver. Could the heavy weight and debased silver reflect the contemporary Hasanwayhid influence in northern Iraq?
