JAPAN: Keio, 1865-1868, iron 100 mon (8.59g), Hosogaya mint at Mito, Hitachi Province, ND (1864), H-7.4, type known as a Mito Tora-sen (Mito Tiger Coin), cast in iron, VF, ex Dr. Axel Wahlstedt Collection. Legend in seal script translates as "Enrich the Country and Strengthen the Military." Cast at the Hosogaya Mito / Hitachi (today Ibaraki-ken). The original cast in 1864 in iron was a local emergency coin used to pay the workmen at the financially troubled copper coin mint in Mito and had a nominal valued of 100 mon. Later in 1867, this type was cast in copper and had a value of 50 mon.
