SYRIA: Arab Republic, AV lira, 1974/AH1394, KM-109a, Hawk of Quraish, trial strike in gold, PCGS graded Specimen 69, RRR, ex Sherritt Mint Archives. The Sherritt Mint struck 4,000,000 nickel 26.8mm 1 lira (100 piastre) coins for the Central Bank of Syria in 1975, all dated the previous year. We know of only 2 off metal strikes in gold which are not listed on the Sherritt Mint Annual Coinage Summary of 1975. Tied for finest graded at both PCGS and NGC.
