These pieces were made beginning in July 1721 following the law of June 1721. The legal tender value of this coin was 1/3 higher than that of the ½ sol in France. In 1722 the East India Company sent 534,000 pieces to Canada. The colonists rejected them for the most part, as all but 8,180 pieces were returned September 26, 1726 to the Company's base in La Rochelle. These coins were subsequently shipped to Louisiana at the legal rate of 6 deniers.
