JAIPUR: Man Singh, 1922-1949, AR broad rupee (11.43g), Sawai Jaipur, 1938 year 17, KM-A196, bold strike, choice AU, RR. According to a specialist for the coinage of Jaipur, "They are broad flan rupees made out right after the princely state's merger into Rajasthan. Ken Wiggins had a couple in his collection and Mr. Edward Baldwin qualified them as Genuine Nazarana rupees. But here is the problem. A nazarana rupee has to have the complete die impression as it is presented to the Maharaja. Therefore, this coin as well as the one in my collection cannot be qualified as Nazarana rupees". These should be regarded as broad flan rupees struck for special gifts very soon after the merger into Rajasthan, which occurred in March 1949.
