Struck at the Carson City Mint Museum to honor the coin that never was - the 1885-CC $5 Coronet Half Eagle! The Carson City Mint did not produce any gold half eagles that year. This coin is composed of .900 fine gold, the same as the original coin which would have been minted. Including its copper balance, the coin weighs 8.35 g. These coins are not legal tender, however, with the word the 'commemorative' replacing the denominational name. It is a private issue commemorative.
