German East Africa Deutsch-Ostafrikanische Bank 500 Rupien Pick 5 dated Daressalam, 2nd September 1912 and with a VERY LOW serial number 00275 in red at upper centre left and right on obverse and in black at centre left and right on reverse. The note in black on multicolor underprint featuring a portrait of Kaiser Wilhelm II in admiral's uniform at left, Crown at top of portrait and Maritime related objects below the portrait (Anchor, Globe, Helm, Nautical Telescope - Spyglass and other) on obverse and the reverse in blue and brown with ornate design and the note still retaining strong paper quality. About VF - VF and Exceptionally Rare highest denomination for German East Africa with striking design and only 696 known to be issued. Designed and printed by Giesecke & Devrient and was issued for a few very short years, before the Emergency issues were printed during World War I and subsequently the colony being ceded after Germany's loss. Wilhelm II was the last German Emperor and King of Prussia with his reign starting from 15th June 1888 until his abdication on 9th November 1918 shortly before Germany's defeat in world War I. Keiser Wilhelm I was the first cousin of the eldest child of Queen Victoria - King George V of the United Kingdom.
