Malta Government 5 Pounds Pick 27a L. 1949 signature D.A. Shepherd (1961) serial number A/3 111135. The note in blue on multi-coloured underprint featuring H.M. Queen Elizabeth II at right and George's Cross at centre on obverse and view of Grand Harbour, La Valletta on reverse. Printed by Bradbury, Wilkinson & Co. New Malden Surrey England inscribed in small script at lower centre margin on reverse and watermarked with a Woman figure. The George's Cross decoration was awarded on the 15th April 1942 by King George VI to the people of Malta to 'bear witness to the heroism and devotion of its people' during the great siege it underwent in the early parts of World War Two.
