CELTIC, Lower Danube. Uncertain tribe. 3rd to 2nd centuries BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 16.78 g, 4 h), imitating Alexander III of Macedon. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. AΛEΞANΔPOY Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; in field to left, dolphin. Dembski 1450-1453 var., Lanz 875-879 var. and OTA 568 var. (all with differing reverse symbols). A rare variety. Very fine.
