SELEUCIS and PIERIA, Antioch. Augustus. 27 BC-AD 14. AR Tetradrachm (25.5mm, 13.96 g, 12h). In the name and types of the Seleucid king Philip I Philadelphus. Dated year 36 of the Caesarean Era (14/13 BC). Diademed head of Philip I right within fillet border / Zeus Nicephorus seated left; monogram to inner left and below throne, Λς (date) and thunderbolt in exergue; all within wreath. Prieur –; McAlee 28 (this coin illustrated); RPC I –; RPC II Suppl. 2 p. 62 for discussion; SC 2491.24; HGC 9, 1360y. Toned, some porosity, a few light scratches. Fine. Extremely rare, Prieur did not own this example when he published his book, and none in CoinArchives.
