Hirsch, Dr. Jacob. Munich, 29 November 1909. No. XXV. Antike Münzen von Griechenland, Asien und Afrika. Sammlung Gustave Philipsen in Kopenhagen. 3276 lots, 270 pages plus index, 35 tissue-guarded plates. (20x26cm) Printed brown card covers with coin photo affixed as issued. Covers show slight fading, top edge slightly foxed. Very Good to Near Fine. CS 1986, Spring 381.

A note from BCD: It would not be surprising for great collectors – and Philipsen was a great collector – to have rather unorthodox ideas when selling their collection. Perhaps he saw the rift between East and West more vividly than most and felt it would be a sacrilege to have coins of both worlds in the same catalogue. Like this writer, he may have secretly wished for an all out victory of Anthony and Cleopatra at Actium and a total annihilation of Octavian and his allies.
