Pre-Union type crowned cruciform shields, garter star at centre, roses and plumes in alternate angles, date either side of top crown, legend and toothed border surrounding, .MAG. BR. FRA. ET. HIB. REG., edge inscribed in raised letters, .+.DECVS. ET. TVTAMEN. ANNO. REGNI. QVINTO., weight 14.94g (Bull 1361; ESC 572; S.3582). Attractively toned, a few light surface marks and light flecks, otherwise almost extremely fine.
The roses and plumes devices in the angles of the reverse are thought to be a direct reflection of the source of the metal that struck the coin, being a mixture of silver mined in England (rose) and Wales (plumes).
