India, Ujjain region of ancient Malwa. Ca. 2nd century B.C. Æ coin (13 mm, 2.43 g). Male deity Mahakal (Shiva) standing holding a danda, with a tree-in-railing and taurine symbol to left / 4-orbed Ujjain symbol. cf Pieper 289 (tree-in-railing to right). A rare type with lovely dark patina. Rare. .

This combination of symbols is not recorded by Pieper. Our specimen has the tree-in-railing to left of Shiva, while Pieper recorded it on the right instead (coin 289).
