Edward VIII (January-December 1936), pattern proof Penny, 1937, edwardvs viii d: g: br: omn: rex f: d: ind: imp:, bare head left, rev. one penny, Britannia seated right, date below (Gordiano P3a, and pp. 253 this coin; F.216; BMC {Peck} 2367 [EXR]; S.4063), brilliant though unevenly toned, practically FDC, and of the highest rarity, one of only two thought available to commerce, in NGC 'Waterbird' holder, graded PF63+ RB (Cert# 4861781-001).

This coin originated from a six-coin part set (Crown, Halfcrown, Shilling, Sixpence, Penny and Farthing).

The Sixpence from this set passed via this auction house (Spink 46, 9 October 1985, lot 821), before reappearing in another London saleroom in September 2010, and eventually selling for £34,000 (HP). This same coin recently resurfaced in Japan (Auction World 15, 19 January 2019, lot 3731), now encapsulated by PCGS and also graded PR63+.
