Tiberius, the second Emperor of Rome, had clear dynastic ambition, expecting his son Drusus to succeed him, followed by his grandsons Tiberius Gemellus and Germanicus Gemellus. This "Tiberian Dynasty" was never to be, but when this coin was struck the emperor had to beware of shocking the people, and therefore chose to associate himself with his late predecessor, Divus Augustus, so that Tiberius and his descendants become part of the Julio-Claudian 'Divine House' (Domus Divina). The Jupiter-like pose of the emperor on the reverse of this coin almost certainly copies the statue which Livia erected near the theatre of Marcellus, and which had become Rome's main place of worship as the temple of Divus Augustus had not yet been completed.

Estimate: 3000 CHF
