NICEPHORUS II, PHOCAS (A.D. 963-969), AV histamenon numisma. +IHS XPS REX REGNANTINM, bust of Christ facing, wearing nimbus cruciger, pallium and colobium, and rising right hand in benediction; in left hand, book of Gospels)(+QETOC BHQ NICHF DESP, facing busts of the Virgin, nimbate (on left) and Nicephorus, with short beard (on right), holding between them patriarchal cross; the Virgin wears stola and maphorium, and divides M - Q; Nicephorus wears crown and loros. Under Nikeforos Fokas tid ersattes den tidigare och "eviga" solidus av histamenon (nomisma), vars benämning faktiskt betecknar samma egenskap (ståndkraftig, stark, solid) som den tidigare valören, fast på grekiska. Valören hade vid denna tid en halt v 24 karat, men skulle inom 100 år reduceras till noll och ersättas med silver.
