Juno standing left holding patera and sceptre, peacock in front IVNO REGINA.RIC 7a; Coh. 1; Calicó 2400.RIC pl. 1–16, same obverse die. Same obverse die as the coin in auction 109 of Classical Numismatic Group, lot 679. *At the same time that Didius Julianus was proclaimed emperor by the Senate, his wife and daughter both received the title of Augusta, which was very unusual at the beginning of a reign. Very little is known about the two imperial ladies. *One of the most outrageous scandels in Roman history, is the story of the sale of the Empire by the Praetorians to Didius Julianus shortly after the murder of Pertinax. Didius Julianus offered the Praetorians 250 aurei each. The Senate, the people and the army reacted with rage. After only 66 days of rule the emperor was beheaded and his wife and daughter were relegated to obscurity. Surviving aurei of Manlia Scantilla are among the great rarities of the Roman coinage. Only a few pieces are known to exist7.24 g. RRR Very fine
