Rev. value and date.Fr. 142; KM. 178.Platinum was discovered in the Ural Mountains in the early eighteenth century. In 1828 the Russian Czar Nicholas I ordered the mintage of platinum coins. The three, six and twelve Roubles were struck in platinum. Although platinum was a precious metal, the Russian population confused the metal often with silver.
