MYSIA. Lampsakos (?). Circa 500-450 BC. Hekte (Electrum, 10 mm, 2.13 g). Forepart of pegasus with curved wings to right; before, branch of ivy (?). Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. Baldwin, Silver -, cf. pl. V, 2 (in silver, of different fabric and without the ivy). CNG 94 (2013), 459 var. (no ivy). Roma 3 (2012), 246 var. (no ivy). SNG Paris -, cf. 1116 (in silver, of different fabric and without the ivy). Extremely rare. A very interesting issue, sharply struck and of beautiful style. Nearly extremely fine.

This coin forms part of an interesting series of hektai struck in very pale electrum with a pegasus on the obverse. Traditionally attributed to Lampsakos, the styles and fabrics of these coins vary greatly and they may, in fact, come from differing mints.
