UNCERTAIN EAST. Late 5th to 4th centuries BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 22 mm, 16.59 g, 9 h), imitating Athens. Head of Athena to right, wrearing crested Attic helmet decorated with three olive leaves and palmette. Rev. AΘE Owl standing right, head facing; to left, olive sprig and crescent; all within incuse square. Extremely rare and unusual, an interesting issue. Some horn silver and with a minor graffito on Athena's cheek, otherwise, good very fine.

From the Canaan Collection.

An interesting and very unusual detail about this coin are the two lines between the last letter of the ethnic and the owl's feet: they are somewhat reminiscent of the Phoenician numeral || = 2, but what they really stand for is currently unclear.
