Late Roman or early Byzantine AR Wedding Ring Bezel. Circa 5th century AD(?). Crowned and draped facing male and female busts to left and right respectively, the female also wearing pendilia; long cross between, uncertain inscription below / Blank surface, which retains evidence of attachment to ring. Cf. Roma E-Sale 53, 1125 for a similar piece. 1.08g, 11mm, 12h.
Condition as seen.
An attractive and interesting piece not least because, when used as a seal matrix, in the image that is produced the lady is shown to the left of the gentleman, the traditional position of greater importance.
