KINGS of THRACE, Macedonian. Lysimachos. 305-281 BC. AR Tetradrachm (29mm, 16.44 g, 1h). Uncertain mint. Struck circa 280-200 BC. Diademed head of the deified Alexander right, with horn of Ammon; K below neck / Athena Nikephoros seated left, left arm resting on shield, spear in background; ivy leaf to outer left, retrograde Σ above bee to inner left, bow in exergue. Cf. HGC 2, 1750 for type, otherwise unpublished in the standard references, but cf. CNG 61, lot 547 and Roma E-18, lot 256 for two other Lymachos tetradrachms with a bow in the exergue. Toned, roughness and deposits, cleaning marks. VF. Extremely rare.
The ivy leaf, bow, and bee are all subsidiary controls found on tetradrachms of Pergamon under the Attalids, which suggests that this issue may be a very late Lysimachos type issue of that mint.
