Gupta Dynasty, Kumaragupta I (Mahendraditya) (415-455 AD), Gold Dinar, "Horseman - Right" type, Obv: king in royal finery with jewelled turban is seen riding a ceremonially adorned Horse to right, wearing buttoned coat and trousers, with a bow, whose strings are inside in the left hand and sword in the right, Brahmi legend around "Prithivitalesvarandrah Ku........ragupto (jayatya jitah)", Rev: goddess Lakshmi, heavily jewelled at her ears, neck, arms, wrists, waist and ankles, nimbate, seated on a wicker stool facing left, is seen feeding grapes, held in her right hand, to the Peacock in full bloom in front, while her left hand holds a lotus with long stalk, rests on her waist, with Brahmi legend "Ajitamahendra" in the right field, tamgha at upper left, 8.07g, 19.53mm, (Altekar. Bayana Hoard # Pl. XXV-11 to 12/Variant of TOTGE, S. Kumar # Class III-Var.F-2), about extremely fine, struck on a large flan, Exceedingly Rare.
An imperial type for the Horseman variety, Peacock is entirely seen in full bloom. Very attractive example!
