Lead seal of Kerykos (11th/12th cent.)
Obverse: Saint Nicholaos full-size, facial, nimbate, in prelate garments, holding the book of Gospels and blessing, columnar inscription: Ο Α(ΓΙΟC) ΝΙΚ(Ο)-ΛΑΟC= Ὁ ἅγιος Νικόλαος (Saint Nicholaos), all within dotted border.
Reverse: Inscription in 6 lines between decorative patterns, all within dotted border: ΚΗΡΥ/ΚΟΝ ΝΙΚ(Ο)/ΛΑΕ CΟΝ ΔΟΥΛ(ΟΝ) CΚΕ/ΠΟΙC=Κήρυκον, Νικόλαε, σὸν δοῦλον σκέποις (Saint Nicholae, protect your servant Kerykos).
Obviously saint Nicholaos was the patron saint of this Kerykos.
Condition: F/VF, nice natural patina. Slightly off-center sealing, scrapes on reverse, thus affecting partly the inscription, a small split on lower perimeter.
