Lead seal of Marchavos (11th/12th cent.)
Obverse: Seemingly the Mother of God sitting on a throne, holding the Holy infant Jesus Christ in her arms, the usual inscription: [Μ(ΗΤΗ)Ρ]- Θ(ΕΟ)Υ (Mother of God), all within double dotted border with pellets inside.
Reverse: Inscription in 5 lines, all within double dotted border with pellets inside: +Κ(ΥΡΙ)Ε/ΦΥΛΑΤ(ΤΕ)/ΜΑΡΧΑ/ΒΩ ΤΩ [CΩ]/ΟΙΚΕ[ΤΗ] = Κύριε, φύλαττε Μαρχαβῷ τῷ οἰκέτῃ (Lord, protect your servant Marchavo).
Condition: VF, nice natural patina. Off-center sealing, thus affecting mainly obverse depiction and partly the inscription.
