Byzantine lead seal of Leon the Photelios (ca 11th/12th cent.)
Obverse: The military saints Theodore and George(?), nimbate, standing facing, holding a spear in their right hand and resting their left hand on a shield. Columnar inscriptions (only one legible) O A(ΓIOC) ΘЄOΔΩPOC = Ὁ ἅγιος Θεόδωρος (Saint Theodoros), all within dotted border.
Reverse: Inscription in 5 lines, following a cross, all within dotted border: +CΦΡΑ/ΓΙC ΛΕΟΝ/ΤΟC ΤΟΥ/ ΦΩΤΗΛ/ΙΟC = Σφραγὶς Λέοντος τοῦ Φωτήλιος (The seal of Leon the Photelios).
The surname of the present Leon (Photelios) is very interesting and has the meaning: The one who has the light of the sun.
