USA, trade dollar, 1878 San Francisco obverse matched with Philadelphia reverse, made into a locket ("box dollar"). 22.47 grams. Expertly crafted "box dollar" made from the pairing of an 1878-S obverse and a Philadelphia reverse. Surfaces are polished and worn with some tooling marks on reverse, burnished circular interior pattern and sturdy, freshly oiled hinge. Box dollars were popular souvenirs on sale at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair.
