CANADA. Dollar, 1947. Ottawa Mint. NGC MS-64.
KM-37. Maple leaf, Doubled "HP". Tied with only one other specimen as the finest graded at NGC, while just four have been graded by PCGS at this level, and merely two finer. Accordingly, one of the finest known examples, and one that is sure either to occupy a fine collection or serve as the highlight of a registry set.

The maple leaf following the date indicates that this coin was struck just after India was granted independence, thus invalidating the obverse die with "IND: IMP," as George VI was no longer the Emperor of India. Since the new obverse dies would not be procured for some time, the mint decided to continue striking 1947-dated coins with the outmoded obverse but with the addition of a maple leaf just after the date on the reverse.

From the Mayer Collection of Canadian NGC Registry Sets.

Estimate: $1200.00- $1800.00
