MEXICO. Hookneck 8 Reales, 1824-Do RL. Durango Mint. PCGS AU-50 Gold Shield.
KM-376.4; DP-Do01. "Hookneck" type. Defiant snake/Small "Libertad" variety. One of the most highly sought Mexican issues, this near Mint State "Hookneck" eagle, among the first Republic pieces struck at Durango, is simply magnificent. A vivid olive gray in color, there are substantial amber, sapphire, and magenta highlights present around the devices that add together to form a spectacularly colorful appearance overall. Wear is light, and the strike, though not razor sharp, is reasonable for the issue. The present coin is surpassed by just one specimen (an AU-55) at PCGS. Being such a rare and exceptionally preserved specimen, it will be hotly contested for by the most sophisticated of First Republic collectors.
From the Sonoran Sunset Collection.
Estimate: $800.00- $1200.00
