URUGUAY. Peso, 1844. Montevideo Mint. Republic. PCGS AU-55.
KM-5; Antunez-7.1.1. Coin Alignment. The "Montevideo Siege" peso, this bright, lustrous piece is one of only 1,500 minted in 1844. Only the faintest touch of handling keeps it from being designated Mint State. The strike is clear and the planchet is well centered for the issue. For such a rare issue, examples this nice are hard to locate.
