URUGUAY. 40 Centesimos, 1857-D. Lyon Mint. Republic. PCGS MS-64 Red Brown.
KM-10. From a scarce, one year type struck in France, this vibrant copper piece is the single red brown example graded at PCGS and finest known from there for all categories. Well over half of the original red is retained with some pleasing, bright brown patina in the fields. Remarkably problem free for such a large copper, there are no spots, blemishes, or contact marks worthy of note. The design is boldly struck and all details are well pronounced. Compare to the Lissner specimen, an NGC MS-66 Red Brown, which realized a hammer of $3,000 in 2014.
