URUGUAY. 5 Centesimos, 1855. Montevideo Mint. Republic. PCGS MS-63 Brown Gold Shield.
KM-6; Antunez-10.1.1. The single Mint State piece extant for this rare issue certified at PCGS, the present coin exhibits a beautiful chocolate brown hue with lighter hints on the reverse. The strike is exceptionally solid and there are few blemishes in the fields. Highly prized by collectors, the scarce 1855 issues grow exponentially harder to find in grades better than Extra Fine. Truly an exceptional coin that is headed for the best of Latin American collections. Compare to the Lissner specimen, an NGC MS-62 Brown, which realized a hammer of $3,000 in 2014.
From the Cerro Catedral Collection.
Estimate: $2000.00- $3000.00
