Rx: Athena seated l., caduceus in inner l. field, monogram in outer r. field. From a private Michigan collection; purchased from Baldwin's. Ex Heritage 3033, 4 August 2014. Ex Gorney & Mosch 204, 3 May 2012,lot 1231. This very rare coinage, known in fewer than a dozen examples, has usually been attributed to the mint of Ainos. More recently it has been convincingly reassigned to Amphipolis (cf. the discussion in Triton XXI, lot 382), based on converging arguments of portrait style and similar symbols and monograms used there..
