Pingo, 1743-1830, was struck to commemorate the founding of Christ's Hospital in London in 1553. The edge was inscribed with the date and name of the marker whose function was to supervise the behavior of other boys. This medal bears the following on its edge: Astley R. Purton. 1870. Eimer-29. The design of this medal is truly beautiful with young King Edward VI facing right and the Bible open to Exodus with the words "Hear, Read, Mark, Learn. Light hairlines and a bit of scratches on the reverse. Proof-like and high relief design.
