Spain, Carthago Nova. Shekel; Spain, Carthago Nova; Carthago Nova, 237-209 BC, Shekel, 7.39g. SNG Spain-104. Obv: Bare male head (Hannibal?) l. Rx: Horse standing r., palm tree behind. From a private Michigan collection. The traditional description of the obverse head as Hannibal is plausible, but in the absence of an inscription naming him must remain speculative. This is a very nice example of this series as it bears what appears to be a portrait of Hannibal .
