Lead seal of Timotheos protokouvoukleisios (11th cent.).
An interesting seal!
Condition: Slightly off-centered sealing, crack alongside the channel on Obv., some earth deposits, otherwise about Very Fine.
Obverse: The bust of the Mother of God, facial, nimbate, blessing, the usual inscription Μ(ΗΤΗ)Ρ- Θ(ΕΟ)Υ = Μήτηρ Θεοῦ (Mother of God), all within a dotted border.
Reverse: Inscription in 5 (?) lines, following a decorative pattern (and a cross?), all within a dotted border: [+] Θ(ΕΟΤΟ)ΚΕ Β(ΟΗ)Θ(ΕΙ)/[CΩ Δ(ΟΥΛΩ)] ΤΙΜΟΘ(Ε)Ω/[Β(ΑCΙΛΙΚΩ] ΠΡΩΤΟΚ(ΟΥ)Β(ΟΥ)ΚΛΙ/C(ΙΩ) ΗΚΟ/... = Θεοτόκε, βοήθει σῷ δούλῳ Τιμοθέῳ, βασιλικῷ πρωτοκουβουκλεισίῳ... (Mother of God, help your servant Timotheos, imperial protokouvoukleisios).
