Purchased from Baldwin's in 1955 for £12.10.0.
The siege of Pontefract castle extended from June 1648 into the following March. Most of the emergency royalist coinage consisted of shillings, although two-shillings pieces also exist and are much rarer. This shilling is a rare survivor in this grade.
