Half Sovereign 1836 the obverse struck from the Sixpence die, this the key date and type rarity for this reign. Marsh 412A, S.3832. The head shows a different form to the curls at the back of the head, also the front tip of the truncation extends further down to a point between the two colon dots after F:D: GEF/AU and lustrous, one of the classic and most unusual varieties in the English Milled Gold series. Rated R5 by Marsh and excessively rare (estimated 9-14 examples known) we suspect less exist as this is the first we have seen in 25 years auctioneering, neither has an example been seen by LCGS which have now graded 43,000 coins. Must surely be the finest known example.

Estimate: 9000-11000 GBP
